Cold makes steel brittle
Torsion springs are tightly wound steel. On the coldest Southwestern Ontario mornings the metal contracts and loses some flexibility, so a spring already near the end of its life is far more likely to snap the moment the opener starts.

Watch for the early signs
A small gap appearing in the coil, a door that lifts unevenly, squealing from above the opening, an opener that sounds like it's straining, or a door that drops quickly instead of lowering gently.

If it goes
Leave the door closed, unplug the opener and give us a call for a free quote by phone. We'll size a new spring to your door's weight and balance-test everything before we leave.
